Holden Speed Honors thier Roots in “I Love You, New England”

Up and coming artist Holden Speed is officially putting Connecticut on the map with the release of their upcoming single “I Love You, New England,” dropping July 25th. The track — which doubles as the heart of their EP — is a bedroom-made labor of love, filled with raw emotion, soft vocals, and personal storytelling.

The song was written and produced in their bedroom, with Holden recording their vocals and guitar with simple but sincere tools. They kept most of their original production intact, preserving the authenticity of the track, and teamed up with Gorm for additional layering and to help organize the track structure. Final vocal polish was handled by Vand3ll, adding a clean, final touch to Holden’s already beautiful sound.

What makes “I Love You, New England” special is how deeply personal and nostalgic it is. Holden wrote the lyrics first—a new process for them—and they came together so naturally, they knew they didn’t want to change a thing. The track explores what it means to grow up feeling out of place in a place you’re supposed to call home.

“Fitting in has always been a push or pull,”  Holden sings, referencing their upbringing in Connecticut. The lyrics are layered with childhood memories and honest observations, like the line:“Boutique too expensive for me.”

Their perspective comes from that of a child with an active imagination, remembering things like “broccoli trees” and interpreting New England through youthful, unfiltered eyes. The entire EP is an homage to ther history—a soft grunge, pastel-painted love letter to late-night drives, black and white visuals, and complicated emotions.

Holden isn’t just here to reflect—they wants their music to connect.

“I want people to ask themselves: ‘Have I been reaching out to the people I love?’ Or ‘Have I told them lately?’

Holden's passionate about authenticity, speaking up, and showing love. Their message throughout the EP is clear: Be yourself. Don’t be passive. Say something. Do something.

“It shouldn’t have to affect you for you to care,” Holden says.“Apathy is not a virtue.”

On the opening track, “Pretty People,” Holden explores how past relationships over-romanticized them, leaving their questioning their role and Holdens identity.

“I love you — but do you fit into my life?” they asks at age 25, confronting the reality that sometimes, love just isn’t enough.

This EP is not just sonically diverse — it’s emotionally rich and visually thoughtful. Think soft grunge meets vulnerability, with a visual aesthetic full of pastels, black and white contrast, and slow, cinematic moods. Holden Speed brings something new to the table, and they are not afraid to take risks while staying grounded in who Holden is.

A proud Connecticut native, Holden is determined to prove that artists can come out of places that often get overlooked. They are humble, positive, and passionate about their art. Their dream? To win a Grammy—and with their drive, honesty, and talent, we believe they just might.

Fun Fact: Holden recently did a 360 video shoot and described the experience as super professional, creatively open, and collaborative. Just like their artistry.

Stay tuned for her single “I Love You, New England” out July 25th.
